It’s that time of the year again, spring planting time of course! It’s time to get your hands dirty and plant those flowers, trees, shrubs, and even your vegetable garden. But don’t do all the work yourself. Get your kids involved! Here are 4 tips to get kids of any age excited about garden work!

Create a flower garden just for them.

It can be a potted garden, or a small plot of land. You can have your children choose the flowers, plant them, and have the responsibility of watering them. Watch the delight on their faces as the flowers grow and spread color in their garden.

Let them help you with the herb and vegetable garden.

There is nothing more satisfying for a kid (or an adult) than eating cherry tomatoes or basil straight from your own backyard. In fact, most of those delicious tomatoes won’t even make it inside the house.

Buy them their own tools.

You can get cheap gardening supplies at discount stores, or even dollar stores. Kids love to spend time outside with their parents and if they get to use the “real tools” they are more likely to want to join in the work.

Make yard work enjoyable with fun family breaks.

Run through a sprinkler! Have lemonade and ice cream on the porch! Analyze the worms and ladybugs! Kick the soccer ball around! Make planting and gardening fun and enjoyable that way they will be looking forward to it next year!
