Being a mom is a thankless job and since your husband or kids will not do it, it’s up to you to treat yourself. Unfortunately most of us do not have the money to spend going to a spa. But you do not have to. You can give yourself that spa-like pampering right at home. So here are 8 spa-like escape ideas for you try while the hubby’s at work and the kids are at school.
Hire a Masseuse
Who says your significant other is the only one who can put their hands on you? Hire a masseuse (hopefully someone hot) and have them come to your house for an hour so they can massage those knots away.
Go At It Alone
Since you are probably already following this philosophy in your bedroom anyway, you might as well implement it for your home spa treatment as well. You can do this by buying a massage chair, a massage mat, or that hand massager that looks eerie similar to another battery powered instrument you have in your night drawer and massage your stress away.
Turn the shower on and leave it running on hot for about 15 minutes before stepping inside. Keep the windows and doors closed. Before going in, make whatever adjustments to the water temperature you need to keep your skin from scalding. You can even spray some de-stressing aroma, like lavender, either in the air or on a washcloth and place it over your face and you have got yourself an instant sauna.
This is the best place to simulate all the properties of an actual spa. Add a couple of candles around the edge of your bath tub. As it fills up with warm water, add some scented oils. Before going in, bring a CD player or your MP3 player and listen to some relaxing music. There are plenty of meditation songs you can download online or buy at a store. If you’re looking for some personal time of self-discovery then pour some bubble bath soap to the water because whatever happens under the water is nobody’s business but your own.
Buy a self-hypnosis CD, but preferably one that contains subliminal music and not a narrated guide. Turn off all of the light sources in the room. Then put your headphones on and let the music put your mind in an altered state of consciousness. Whether the hypnosis works or not is debatable but one thing you can be sure of is that it will definitely leave your mind body and spirit relaxed.
There is a reason scented oils, sprays and candles exist. You will find that certain scents like vanilla, peppermint, eucalyptus, lavender and jasmine, all of which are known to relax and alleviate depression, can really help you put your mind at ease. You can enjoy them either while lying on a bed, drinking tea in the patio, or sitting in a bathtub.
Go Exfoliate Yourself
Exfoliating can go a long way to giving you that spa-like feeling at home. There are different things you can try such as exfoliating your entire skin with a scrub that you can make at home mixing a cub of brown sugar, a cup of raw oatmeal and a cup of olive oil. Then rubbing it on yourself. You will literally feel like you are exfoliating the stress and negativity away along with the dead skin cells.
Theaters are way too annoying. There is always some idiot talking throughout the movie just like when you are trying to watch something at home with the family. But when there is no one around, turn the lights off, close the curtains and put on your favorite movie and relax with a bowl of popcorn.
The key element of a spa-like escape is to make sure that no one can disturb you. So take that phone off the hook, turn that laptop off and give yourself permission to relax and rejuvenate. You have earned it.
